Coronation Street: Georgia Taylor is reprising her role of Toyah Battersby next year!

Former Coronation Street star Georgia Taylor is set to return to the show next year, to reprise her role as Toyah Battersby in dramatic style!

Taylor was last seen on the cobbles of Weatherfield 8 years ago, when she left Weatherfield to move to London, after the trauma of being raped.

Taylor played Toyah, the younger half-sister of Leanne (Jane Danson) and her character has been mentioned repeatedly since her departure, with Leanne even spending time with her recently after discovering that her estranged husband, Peter (Chris Gascoyne) had been cheating on her with best friend Carla (Alison King).

And now ITV bosses are bringing back Taylor, who starred as Dr Ruth Winters in BBC1’s Casualty up until last year, as part of an show overhaul, following new producer Stuart Blackburn replacing current boss Phil Collinson in the New Year, and sources claim that Georgia could be one of his biggest new arrivals.

An insider told the publication “There has been talk for a few months now that Toyah’s character could return – which would be brilliant news for Georgia who loved being in Corrie all those years ago.

“There is endless scope for terrific storylines with her stepsister Leanne.

“It would be a perfect scenario if Toyah was to come back.”

Toyah and her wayward family, the Battersby’s first appeared on the Street in 1997 with cheating layabout dad Les (Bruce Jones), gobby mum Janice (Vicky Entwistle) and daughters Leanne and Toyah playing neighbours from hell.

Jane Danson has recently said that she would love it if Toyah were to come back to the Street, commenting:

“I’d just like Leanne to have somebody around who would be really on her side 100% of the time.

“From my point of view it would be fantastic.”

Meanwhile Georgia has already said if she was to return she would have to reinvent her character.

She explained: “She’s meant to have been in London for eight years so there should be a back story for that.

“And in a way I’d have to reinvent her because for most of the time on the show I felt I was playing a teenager.

“I’m 32 now – so automatically that changes things!”

Coronation Street can be seen Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings on ITV1/ITV1 HD.
