Coronation Street: Gray O’Brien Joins Cast

Gray O’Brien, star of River City, is said to have begun filming for his new role in ITV soap opera, Coronation Street.

The actor is believed to be taking a bit of a break from his role in the Scottish soap, and turning his attention to playing Tony Gordon, a catalogue rep who will seduce Carla Connor (Alison King).

River City bosses are convinced that Gray will be returning to the Scottish show, however Corrie bosses aren’t so sure.

“Gray asked for a break until Christmas and has said he will be coming back after then,” a BBC spokesperson told the Daily Record. “He’s very loyal to River City and he has made it clear he does want to come back.”

A Corrie insider explained: “He’s going to be one of the leading men in Corrie and although his contract is for six months, we’re hoping he will stay involved.”

O’Brien also cast doubts on his future plans when he said:

“I’m delighted to be joining the cast of Corrie. Tony is a great character and I hope I’ll be well received by the viewers,” he explained. “I’ve had a great time [on River City], but I’m looking forward to the new challenge.”
