Coronation Street is a real Crime Street with police called out 71 times!
It’s been reported today that in the last ten years, the police have been called to the set of Coronation Street no less than 71 times.
The Mirror reports that there have been acts of vandalism and criminal damage, thefts, fights and assorted other crimes that have required the police to attend the scenes.
The paper adds, “Freedom of Information requests show two people at Granada’s Manchester studios – also home to The Jeremy Kyle Show and Take Me Out – were charged with actual bodily harm and six violent assaults took place.”
The crime toll lists the thefts of 22 mobile phones, 12 computers, 3 cameras, a bicycle and an electric saw which were the result of 7 burglaries and 4 vehicle break-ins.
Perhaps these figures should also include how many times medics have been called to the set, because they’d have one more incident to add to that list after this weekend’s report that Sue Cleaver needed treatment after getting a whack in the face…
Apparently, Sue – who plays Eileen Grimshaw – was filming a scene in which she had a “scuffle” with Paul’s (Tony Hirst) wife Lesley (Judy Holt) when she took an accidental hit in the face and fell to the floor.
An insider said, “They could have used stunt doubles but they did it themselves.
“It was a scene the pair did a number of times without any problems.
“But Sue ended up getting a glancing blow and feeling some real pain. She had a nasty bump on her head.”
However, Sue was given the all clear, and after a few minutes rest, she went back to filming.
