Coronation Street actor Bill Tarmey has admitted that he is unsure how much longer he will be able to star on the ITV soap.

Bill has played Jack Duckworth for nearly 30 years.

“I don’t know when I will decide the time is right to call it a day. It could be one, two, three years’ time,” Tarmey told the Daily Star Sunday. “I am 68 and it depends on how I feel and on my health.

“At the moment Granada cannot do enough for me. I would like to spend a bit more time in Tenerife enjoying the warmth. I feel after 40 years in the business I have earned it.”

Asked how he would like to be written out, Tarmey replied: “The perfect scenario would be if Bet Lynch turned up and asked Jack to come out to Spain with her and help her run her bar. Jack and Bet had a bit on the side so it is totally plausible. I’d want a gentle exit.”
