Coronation Street: Join the Save Schmeichel campaign!

November 4th, 2011 by Lynn Connolly

In next week’s episodes of Corrie, Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) is set for heartache when his beloved dog Schmeichel falls ill…

It all begins with a trip to the vet when Schmeichel seems under the weather, and to Chesney’s horror, the vet tells him that the poor pooch is really unwell, and needs an expensive operation.

Now of course, Chesney and his girlfriend Katy Armstrong (Georgia May Foote) are expecting a baby at Christmas, and they’re struggling to pay their bills as it is, what with their only income being Ches’s market stall.

So when Chesney tells Katy that Schmeichel needs an operation, she tries to gently break the news that they just can’t afford it…

However, when the vet suggests that it would be “a kindness” to put Schmeichel to sleep – encouraged by Kirk (Andy Whyment) who understands how hard this is for Ches – our favourite ging refuses and vows to do whatever it takes to pay for the treatment.

But will he succeed? Or are the show’s writers going to kill off Schmeichel, who’s been in the show for over seven years? However, that said, I should mention that the role of Schmeichel has in fact been played by four different Great Danes since he first appeared in 2003…

But even still, I think all of us here at Primetime should start a campaign to save Schmeichel. I couldn’t bear it if Ches lost him, so if you agree, please say so in the comment box below, and maybe the powers that be over at Corrie will read this and issue a reprieve!

You could also Tweet this article and ‘Like’ it on Facebook to raise the profile of this most pressing issue. Let’s make it happen and Save Schmeich!

In the meantime, you can click here to see a preview of Chesney’s doggy dilemma, and also, let’s take a look at one of Schmeichel’s most memorable scenes…

So please start the Save Schmeichel campaign below. It worked for Free the Weatherfield One when Deirdre ended up in clink!
