Coronation Street: Julie Carp to have a baby?!

It’s been reported that Corrie comedy character Julie Carp, who’s played by Katy Cavanagh, will become pregnant later this year…

However, according to the Daily Star, when her boyfriend Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) hears the news, he is convinced that Julie’s been unfaithful as he reveals he had a vasectomy years ago.

That news shocks Julie to the core, but even still, she’s so delighted to be pregnant that she can’t contain herself and announces the news to her sister, Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver).

But of course, we viewers know that Julie is as faithful as a Labrador, and would never cheat on Brian…

So, I guess there are only two possible outcomes; either Brian’s tubes have re-tied and she is pregnant, or it’ll transpire that Julie is in fact menopausal.

I really hope it turns out to be the former because Julie’s always wanted to be a mum, and she’d be a great one. Plus, it would be a chance for the show’s bosses to show the realities – if any soap storyline can be a ‘reality’ – of motherhood for older women.

Would you like to see Julie being a mum?

Plus, it would be a nice way to round off the Julie-Brian love story, which of course, for the romantic Julie is akin to Romeo and Juliet…

They first met as a result of John Stape (Graeme Hawley) having Brian visit him at home when he was impersonating Colin Fishwick so that he could return to teaching. Brian was of course Colin’s boss at the school.

However, their romance was thwarted by John who revealed that Brian was a married man. But of course, he later returned to the Street and Julie’s open arms when he and his wife separated.

The character of Julie isn’t that old – look in wikipaedia under Julie Carp and she is only 35 this year. Now Brian is rather older for first time parenthood. I guess in the world of Corrie she would be an older first time mother.
