Coronation Street: Kat Kelly has filmed her final scenes, and Simon Gregson talks Christmas

by Lynn Connolly

Gossip from Weatherfield way today includes the news that – sigh – Katherine Kelly has filmed her final scenes as Becky McDonald.

More on that in a moment, but first, Simon Gregson – who of course plays Becky’s ex, Steve McDonald, and whose real name is actually Simon Alan Gregory – has been telling What’s On TV magazine how he’ll be spending Christmas.

And it seems since his marriage to wife Emma last year – the couple have two sons – Simon’s become something of a home body.

He said, “Christmas 2011 is just Christmas with the family at home in front of the fire.

“Emma and I are doing the cooking this year so we’ll be having a massive turkey, maybe a turducken!”

Of which Christmas he has especially fond memories of, Simon said, “Our first Christmas with Alfie was really special…

“It was the first Christmas with my son so that was a big one.”

Then, while describing a typical Christmas Day in his house, Simon said, “Too much food, a small amount of wine and lots of tidying up the next day!

“The kids waking us up at the crack of dawn and asking whether he’s been and the whole run up as well.”

However, Simon won’t need to worry about working over the holidays as he and the rest of the Corrie cast get two weeks off to celebrate the festive season.

Which brings me now to the news that Katherine Kelly has bid the Street farewell, having filmed her final scenes yesterday.

In the morning, Kat tweeted, “Last day filming on the cobbles…”

And in the evening, she added, “It is done. Becky has left the Street!

“I hope you enjoy the departure Corrie viewers. Final eps on screen Mid Jan. Enjoy!

“It’s all for you x”

Kat’s co-star Paula Lane, who of course plays Becky’s sister Kylie Platt, tweeted, “Filming some very emotional scenes today with my on screen big sis @katherine_kelly.

“Everyone is gonna miss her so much :-(”

Ditto Paula!

Let’s take a look at some of Kat’s highlights as Becky, starting with her first ever appearance…
