Coronation Street: Lewis Archer is coming back to Weatherfield!

Con man and ladies’ escort Lewis Archer is heading back to Weatherfield next month, but there’s no warm welcome for him in the Rovers, and in fact, Deirdre Barlow will punch him in the face!

As fans will recall, Nigel Havers plays the smooth talking snake Lewis, and before his rapid evac exit from the Street last year, Lewis managed to fleece money out of Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) and her step-son Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).

However, Lewis will try to convince the residents of Weatherfield that his is in fact his won twin to avoid further repercussions for his former bad deeds.

The Sun reports that Lewis will tell the Rovers’ regulars, “I think you are mistaken.

“I’m Lewis’s twin. We’re always mistaken for each other…”

But it’s not very likely that anyone’s going to believe him, least of all Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) who of course fell hook line and sinker for the cad, and was left feeling humiliated when he left.

However, it’s because of Audrey that Lewis returns – having bumped into her and her daughter Gail McIntyre (Helen Worth) in a country pub – and he’ll tell her he’s sorry for the hurt he caused her.

The show’s producer, Phil Collinson, discussed Lewis’s return in an interview with the Radio Times.

He said, “Nigel’s back, he’s just started filming with us, so he’s back on screen in February.”

And of the circumstances of Lewis’s return, Collinson said, “It’s a right old hoot, and the character’s a great hoot, and Nigel’s wonderful fun, so it’s great to have him back.”

Nigel of course recently joined the cast of Downton Abbey as Lord Hepworth. He starred in the Christmas special of the show.
