We certainly wouldn’t complain if the Great British public had voted us Sexiest Female at every British Soap Awards since time began, but hey, what do we know?
And that’s because we aren’t Michelle Keegan, who has become one of the best-loved soap characters of this generation, not to mention the sexiest actress on our tellyboxes since she first stepped out on to the cobbles of Weatherfield six years ago.
But now that she’s left the iconic soap, she’s said that her parting gift, which was the award for Sexiest Female at last weekend’s British Soap Awards, is actually bittersweet as she wishes that her last award could have actually been for acing (just no pleasing some people, is there?).
According to The Daily Star newspaper a source close to the star is quoted as saying: “Her Sexiest Female awards are bittersweet. She’s grateful [for them] but she’d love to win something for her acting.”
Speaking of her acting, Keegan – who left the soap in order to move to London to be closer her to her former The Only Way Is Essex star fiancé Mark Wright – has been very vocal in the lead up to her on-screen exit, about what she would like to do next.
The actress, whose character Tina McIntyre is currently critically ill in hospital after being pushed off a roof then clobbered round the head by Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) has a number of ideas about what’s next for her following her soap departure, and they range from collaborating on a comedy with Ricky Gervais to playing one of King Henry VIII’s wives in a period drama. But now it seems that she might be broadening her horizons even further!
According The Daily Star newspaper, the actress is thinking of moving to the US to pursue new projects there. The publication quotes a source as saying : “Now that Michelle’s left Corrie, she’s determined to secure a serious acting career and her agent thinks she’s got what it takes to make it big in Hollywood…
“She wants to be taken seriously as an actress.”
Hmm, Hollywood is a bit more of a commute to London than Manchester (even in rush hour) so we aren’t sure how this will be particularly in tune with the whole ‘being closer to Mark’ thing, but still, good luck Michelle!
Coronation Street continues tomorrow (Sunday June 1) at 9pm on ITV 1 / ITV1 HD – Watch the dramatic trailer for Michelle’s dramatic exit storyline in the clip below:
