Coronation Street: Natalie Gumede says she has no plans to return to the show as Kirsty Soames!
Despite her abundance of awards for her role, Natalie Gumede has revealed that she has no plans to return to Coronation Street!
Gumede backed out of the long-running ITV soap last year as her character, Kirsty Soames, was sent to prison for the domestic abuse she subjected her partner, Tyrone (Alan Halsall) to in one of the shows biggest storylines of the year.
Since then Gumede has gone on to take part, and come runner up in last year’s Strictly Come Dancing where people got to see that she wasn’t nearly as bad as her on-screen character.
And she must like being the good guy for once, as she has now revealed that she has no immediate plans to return to the cobbles of Weatherfield.
This comes at a time where her character is about to return to the lives of her Weatherfield family off-screen, when Tyrone will start to fret after being told by the police that Kirsty has been released from prison.
After this the mechanic, who has moved in with Fiz Stape (Jenny McAlpine) since Kirsty was carted off, starts receiving text messages from an unknown number, signed simply ‘k’!
This would of course be the ideal time for Kirsty to return to the show, especially considering that Tyrone has full custody of their baby daughter Ruby, but Natalie Gumede, the actress who played her, has denied the possibility, taking to social networking site, Twitter, to tell fans:
“Lots of people asking today if I’m returning to Corrie – no plans to lurk in any Weatherfield shadows or alleyways at the mo :).”
At the mo, you say?
So who could the texts be from, if not Kirsty?
Digital Spy reports sources close to Corrie suggesting that Kirsty may not be the person behind the texts, and that maybe instead it could be “someone closer to home”.
Our money is on Kevin!
Coronation Street continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on ITV1 / ITV1 HD – Watch a clip of Natalie in action below:
