Coronation Street: Newcomer Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) the new gay character?
We reported a few weeks ago that Coronation Street were going to introduce a new gay couple, and it would seem that we now know who one of the partners will be.
Catherine Tyldesley is very soon to join the cast as Eva, daughter to new Rovers landlady, Stella (Michelle Collins), and is reportedly going to be the new lesbian on the block.
The show already has a lesbian couple, Sophie (Brooke Vincent) and Sian (Sacha Parkinson), and with the return of Sean’s (Anthony Cotton) true love, Marcus (Charlie Condou) this week, some people think that the writers and producers are taking the homosexual element of the show too far.
Several people, including veteran actors of the show, spoke out at the farfetchedness of having so many gay people in one small community, as well as a transsexual and a transvestite, but their complaints were hit back by gay rights activists who say that when it comes to equality with regards to homosexuality and the acceptance of it, Coronation Street was Streets ahead in Soap Land.
Catherine Tyldesley had a two month part in Emmerdale last year playing prison guard, Aby, who was romantically involved with Ryan Lamb (James Sutton)
