Corrie star Craig Charles has revealed that his character, cabbie Lloyd Mullaney, is headed for a “proper breakdown” in the aftermath of his girlfriend Cheryl (Holly Quin-Ankrah) leaving him to go back to her ex-husband Chris Gray (Will Thorp).
And Keith Duffy, who of course plays barman Ciaran McCarthy, has revealed that he may well return to the show some day after his latest short stint is over.
But let’s go back to Craig first, and, speaking via the show’s official website, he revealed just how far off the rails Lloyd will go as he tries to deal with losing Cheryl.
He said, “Things are going to get a lot worse. He’s going to have a proper breakdown, he’s taken this really badly.”
In last night’s episode, we saw Lloyd finding out about Cheryl’s betrayal when Chris boasted that he and Cheryl had been having an affair…
Desperately upset, Lloyd shared a few too many drinks with bezzy mate Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) before collapsing into tears and angrily throwing a glass at a mirror, shattering both.
Of Chris’s deception in not telling anyone that his brain tumour is actually receding, Craig said, “Chris is still pretending to be ill, he’s still shaving his head…
“He’s a dirty, cheating, nasty piece of work.”
Craig is about to leave the show temporarily to star in a revamp of hit comedy Red Dwarf, so we might assume that Lloyd will leave Weatherfield for a while to get his head round Cheryl’s betrayal.
As fans of the show will know, Keith doesn’t want to return to Corrie full time just yet as he wants to spend more time with his young family.
However, in an interview with RTE, Keith revealed that the Corrie door is wide open for a future return.
He said, “The producers said that while they understood my family commitments in Ireland, they told me to remember that there was always a job for me on the Street.”
We’ll see Keith as Ciaran exiting Weatherfield over Christmas in what’s described as “dramatic” circumstances.
