Following one of the most dramatic years for her character Kylie Platt, Paula Lane has revealed that she has signed a new contract to stay on Coronation Street for another year.
The actress, who in the last twelve months has played out the devastating effects that Kylie’s affair with her brother in law Nick (Ben Price) has had on the rest of the Platt family, in a dramatic style to be commended, took to social networking site Twitter to announce the news, tweeting to followers:
“So it’s confirmed I’m stopping on’t cobbles for another year from this summer. #bringiton”
It has been a turbulent four years since Kylie first arrived on the Street, but despite her self-destructive and sometime obnoxious ways she has become one of the shows best loved characters, especially since her pairing with her on-screen husband, David (Jack P Shepherd).
Lane, who has also appeared in shows such as Heartbeat, Casualty, Still Game and EastEnders, revealed recently what she hopes the future holds for her character, saying in an interview with Digital Spy:
“She is that kind of character that can pick herself up and start again. She is quite robust because of her upbringing – she has got fight left in her.”
As well as hinting that she didn’t intend on playing the role indefinitely:
“I’m an actress and I’ve spent three years at drama school, so of course I’ve got desires to do other things in the future.
“But at the moment, all of my concentration is on this job and I’ve got no desire to leave at present. I’m really happy with what the writers have given me, and I want to make Kylie even bigger and better. With that in mind, there’s definitely no departure on the cards for me just yet!”
