Corrie star Simon Gregson has predicted that the upcoming storyline which sees his character Steve McDonald embark on a new relationship with Street schemer Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) will “split viewers.”

As fans will know, Tracy is about to reveal to Steve that she’s yet again pregnant with his baby, and when she then tells him she wants an abortion, he pledges to be a constant support if she’ll keep the baby. Which is of course exactly what Tracy wants.

Speaking Soaplife, Simon said, “I think it will split opinions…

“Some viewers will be willing for him and Tracy to be together, whilst there will be other fans screaming at their television sets, telling Steve that he’s crazy for getting involved with her again.

“[But] one thing that Steve realises is that Tracy really does love him, and can provide him with the family life that he craves so much.

“Being together with Tracy would be the best situation for Amy and their unborn child.”

However, news of the pregnancy has come at a bad time for Steve, because he felt he and wife Becky (Katherine Kelly) stood a chance of reuniting since she’s thawed in her attitude towards him of late.

Of that, Simon said, “They’re getting on really well. She seems to have forgiven him over her losing Max.

“They really were on course for rekindling their damaged relationship.”
