Whilst we all wait for Lloyd Mullaney to reappear on our Coronation Street screens, more details of his explosive return is being leaked.
We reported last month that Craig Charles, who plays the unlucky-in-love cab firm owner, was set to return after an extended break and cause havoc by opening a new rival cab firm in competition with his ex business partner, and best friend, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), and today pictures have leaked showing what looks like the pair involved in a chase, at Bessie Street school sports day!
Lloyd left our screens last year for what was meant to be a three month break whilst he filmed a new series of the popular comedy sci-fi show, Red Dwarf.
However, when three months turned to six, fans feared that he would not be returning at all due to his very publicised drink and drug problems, which had seen him suspended from the show previously.
Writers of the show insisted that this was not the case and that the extension to Charles’ absence had been down to the difficulty in re-writing his character back into the show, and last month it was revealed that Lloyd was to return to our screens in the next few weeks.
A source told The Sun at the time: “There were all kinds of rumours flying around that Craig wasn’t coming back at all.
“But it seems he is back with a bang.
“Craig is well liked by the production crew and has some great banter with them, so he has been missed.
“It’s a relief and joy that he is back.”
Llloyd was last seen on our screens leaving Weatherfield heartbroken after his break up with girlfriend Cheryl, and hell-bent on starting a new life away from the cobbles.
His character is due to return to our screens shortly, where he will set up the rival taxi form in competition with best friend, Steve, and pictures released today show that their friendship is more than put to the test after the act of betrayal.
The pictures, released in today’s Sun newspaper, show Steve running away from Lloyd at the Bessie Street school sports day, with Lloyd chasing his friend furiously, across the playground in front of all the students taking part, and their parents!
Steve is at the school to cheer daughter Amy at the sporting event, accompanied by friend Dev (Jimmi Harkishin), when Lloyd turns up.
It is unclear what leads to the high-speed chase, but headmaster Brian (Peter Gunn) looks very flustered as he tries to defuse the situation, in scenes due to air on our screens soon.
