Fans of Corrie will no doubt know that the show’s iconic pub, the Rovers, is set to burn to the ground, leaving Sunita Alahan dead as well as at least one other Weatherfield resident…
And as the drama is set to air on March 18, the cast have been working all hours to film it, and were even on-set until 4am yesterday.
Several of the soap’s cast took to Twitter to remark on filming the dramatic storyline, with Shobna Gulati, who of course plays doomed Sunita, commenting, “Its hot! Even though its freeezin”.
And in the early hours, she added, “Nite y’all give some big love to those still out there #roversfire big up #corrie cast and crew x”
Of the late night filming, the Mirror reports, “Landlady Stella, played by Michelle Collins, is pulled out alive from an upstairs window by Weatherfield fireman Paul Kershaw (Tony Hirst), the boyfriend of Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver).”
Several firefighters were on hand at the show’s set to ensure the safety of all those involved in the spectacular scenes, which have been filmed over three consecutive nights.
At 4am yesterday, Michelle Collins tweeted, “Just got home after major night shoot could never be a night worker!
“Actors, crew and fireman were all amazing had some amazing stunts.
“Night sleep well all my co workers, great night on the cobbles! so exciting and dramatic Corrie fans will love it x”
And Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully, told his Twitter followers during filming, “Here we go… The big blast!!! #roversfire.”
His co-star Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Stella’s daughter Eva, sent a tweet to her boyfriend Sam Whitter yesterday saying, “Happy valentines Monkey…even tho Im spending it in a burning pub!”
Following the inferno, the pub will be reopened to reveal a much bigger and modernized inn, and it’s rumoured that Michelle Connor (Kym Lomas) will become the new landlady.
