Hayley Tamaddon has opened up about her recent Coronation Street audition.
The former Emmerdale star was announced as a new addition to the cast of the ITV soap opera last month and it’s been confirmed that she’ll take on the role of Andrea, a student who connects with Steve McDonad when he returns to the classroom.
Steve wants to educate himself, so he can be a better support to his daughter Amy with her homework but he ends up getting close to Andrea, much to the annoyance of his suspicious partner Michelle Connor (Kym Lomas).
Tamaddon played the role of Delilah Dingle on Emmerdale between 2005 and 2007 and in an interview with OK magazine she admitted that despite her former experience, she was still ‘petrified’ when she had to audition for Corrie.
“I was petrified – it all happened very quickly. When I joined Emmerdale I had five auditions but for this I had one audition and then a screen test with Simon Gregson and Craig Charles, so it all happened very quickly! ”
Describing her new alter ego, Hayley added:
“She is sassy, warm and loving – at the moment! She’s not overly confident, because she’s had her heart broken numerous times in the past and she’s struggled. But now her daughter, who’s 20, is pushing her and I think she’s out to get Mr Right! ”
Hayley will return to the ice rink in January, for a new all stars series of Dancing On Ice, but she’s admitted that viewers might enjoy watching her on I’m A Celebrity more.
“I would be quality TV on that show – I am scared of absolutely anything that flaps its wings, anything that comes near me. I’m absolutely awful. I’d probably embarrass the c**p out of myself. It would be funny for everybody else but I would have a heart attack!”
