Coronation Street Spoilers: Is it the end of the road for Maria Connor (Samia Ghadie) and Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou)?

by Anna Howell

After all the controversy they caused getting together in the first place, it would seem that the romance between Maria Connor and boyfriend Marcus Dent is due to come crashing to an end in Coronation Street this week.

Fans of the show will know how Maria (Samia Ghadie) and Marcus (Charlie Condou) got together last year, despite the fact that they were both in other relationships, and despite the fact that Marcus was gay!

The residents of Weatherfield were left shocked by the new coupling, and both Maria’s ex, Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) and Marcus’ ex, Sean Tully (Anthony Cotton) set about making life unbearable for the new couple, hounding them with nastiness.

However, Maria and Marcus proved that love really can conquer all as, despite the unwavering attempts from their bitter ex partners to cause trouble and cast doubts in the new lover’s minds, they held their heads up high and set about proving everyone wrong!

Now that things have settled down though, it looks like Sean and Jason’s insistence that Marcus will always prefer men may has made a mark in Maria’s mind after all, as she and Marcus are set to split up in an upcoming storyline.

According to the shows official website the situation arises when Marcus and Maria, accompanied by Maria’s brother Kirk (Andy Whyment) and girlfriend, Beth (Lisa George), go for a night out in a gay bar in scenes to be shown during this Friday’s double bill.

Marcus, Beth and Kirk all seem up for a giggle as they hit the town, Maria is noticeably uncomfortable, paranoid that her man is checking out other men.

The situation escalates and a row erupts causing Maria to storm out of the bar leaving Marcus to chase after her and try to convince her that it is her he wants, but can he get through? He might have stood a chance, but an uninvited guest makes things even more complicated…

Charlie Condou, who plays Marcus, said: “Could this be the end of them? It’ll cause problems and then Sean turns up…”
