As we have previously reported British comedy legend, Les Dennis is set join the cast of Coronation Street next month playing petty criminal Michael Rogers, and now we know whose house, and heart he robs!

Michael is set to cause a stir on the cobbles of Weatherfield as his introduction storyline will see him burgling the home of a Corrie resident, and the Mirror newspaper has now revealed that the person who is left a victim by the crime is none other than Gail McIntyre (Helen Worth).

And if that wasn’t bad enough, in a shocking twist, writers have written in that after the burglary Gail will end up falling for the thief and make him her latest car-crash romance!

The paper quotes a source as saying: “Producers are getting stuck into the restorative justice storyline – this is going to be the next big issue the show tackles.

“They are keen to pursue the angle of criminals meeting their victims in a scheme which was set up by the Government.”

Poor Gail knows only too well what it is like to fall for the wrong person, her back catalogue of relationships boats a CV of love rats, cheats and conmen.

Having lost her first husband and father to her first two children, Brian, to a fatal stabbing, Gail then moved on to male nurse Martin Platt who was nice enough, till he spawned the devil with Gail.

After martin there was serial killer Richard Hillman, who tried to kill Gail and her entire family by driving the car they were in into a lake.

After this there was Joe, who was as harmless as they get, albeit a tad of the stupid side. Gail married Joe and things looked good, until he accidentally killed himself trying to fake his own death.

Finally there was the incredibly icky relationship Gail thought she was having with her mother’s partner, Lewis, which resulted in him stealing everything she had forcing her to have to sell her house to son David (Jack P Shepherd).

So, we think it is safe to say that Gail will be able to handle Michael – Or will she?

The source continued:

“Everyone knows Gail falls for bad boys. Michael could be really bad for her – it’s going to be a very juicy storyline.”

Coronation Street continues tomorrow night at 7.30pm on ITV1 / ITV1 HD – Watch an interview with Dennis in the clip below:
