Last year it was reported that when Coronation Street beauty Michelle Keegan left the show this year, it would create a huge who-dunnit mystery as her character, Tina McIntyre was murdered by another resident.
So when, only last week, we saw Tina pack her bags and head for a new life in London, we all scratched our heads thinking ‘surely that can’t be it?’, and it would seem we were right as one of her co-stars has revealed that the story is far from over, but that no one on the show knows the details of the exit yet.
Before Tina left for London she had ruffled more than a few feathers on the cobbled street, none more than newly married Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) who she had been having an illicit affair with from the day he got married to Carla Connor (Alison King).
Tina issued Peter with a ‘her or me’ ultimatum, but not before trying to make him jealous by having a snog with Rob (Marc Baylis), the partner of Peter’s sister, Tracey (Kate Ford) and the brother of Peter’s wife Carla.
The ultimatum, and attempt to make Peter jealous did not get her the reaction she had hoped for, leading her to make the decision to leave, but bosses at the hugely popular ITV soap have confirmed that she will be back, and killed later in the year, with already a few obvious prime suspects lined up to be the murderer, but no one knows who yet, as Marc Baylis, who plays Rob, has been explaining on ITV chat show, Loose Women:
“There’s the whole thing at the moment of, ‘Will Tracy find out about Rob and Tina?’ That could ruffle a few feathers.
“[Tina’s] going, going, gone – but we don’t know how yet. The whole green room at the moment is kind of like Chinese whispers. There’s a great anticipation about that storyline at the moment.”
On his characters behaviour with new partner in crime, Tracey, he continued:
“Me and Kate love it. We love playing our characters. We’re really fortunate in causing as much trouble as we possibly can and pulling a few people’s strings. I’m very happy to be there and especially happy to be playing a character like Rob.
“It’s a love and hate thing [between Rob and Tracy] and we’ve been getting a bit more comedy recently as well. There’s some great stuff coming up in the next few weeks, so long may that continue.”
Finally, addressing his nomination for Most Popular Newcomer at next week’s Nation Television Awards, he commented:
“For the first time it suddenly dawned on me – the reality of the scale of the show. I kind of knew about a month before I could tell anyone so I was walking around thinking, ‘I want to tell someone!’ But it’s out there now and we’ll see what happens.”
Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV1 / ITV1 HD – Watch an interview with Michelle Keegan who plays Tina in the clip below:
