It would appear that Coronation Street fans all over the country may get the happy ending they have been praying for in the current domestic violence storyline as Natalie Gumede has revealed that she is quitting her role as Kirsty Soames!
Fans of the award-winning ITV soap will know how Natalie’s character, Kirsty Soames, has been secretly abusing her almost-husband, Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) for the best part of a year.
However, it is Tyrone himself who is currently behind bars on an assault charge after Kirsty slipped when trying to hit him, fell down the stairs and then accused him of doing to her what she had in fact been doing to him.
Bosses at the hit soap have remained tight lipped about what the outcome of this story will be, even going as far as to film two different endings – one with Tyrone being sent down for crimes he didn’t commit, and the other with Kirsty being sent to prison after the truth is exposed.
However, today’s news would suggest that they may have decided on a happy ending after all, as Natalie Gumede took to social networking site, Twitter, to announce that she is leaving the show .
Gumede posted to fans on the site on Friday:
‘I can now confirm what you all suspected: #Corrie is on a Kirsty countdown!! The last 18 months have been incredible, thank you all so much!’
As well as acknowledging her on-screen partner, Alan Halsall who plays Tyrone Dobbs, of whom she said:
‘Thank you @alanhalsall for your generosity as a person and as an actor! And all of my castmates, crewmates and all who look after us so well,’
‘Your support has touched me greatly, and working with the #Corrie team has been an honour and a pleasure!,’
With regards to her future, she continued:
‘After my final #Corrie filming day next week, I will look back with love, and look forward to new adventures xxx,’
