We don’t know about you, but watching the current bullying storyline plaguing Roy Cropper in Coronation Street is breaking our hearts but it is only going to get worse!
Fans of the hit ITV soap will know how poor Roy (David Neilson) has fallen prey to some asbo-youths who have made it their mission in life to torment the widowed cafe owner.
So far the gang has taunted Roy in public, vandalised and littered inside and outside his business and, most recently, broken in to his home and destroyed priceless pictures of the train spotter and his late wife.
It seems so wrong to be putting poor Roy through all this so soon after Hayley’s death, but far from offering us a happy ending anytime soon, show head honcho Stuart Blackburn has instead promised us an “explosive” conclusion to this plotline at Christmas!
But, it isn’t all doom and gloom, as the executive producer has also revealed, in a recent interview with STV, that next year will be a brighter one for Roy, explaining to the publication:
“The good news is that in 2015 we’re going to see Roy back on an upward path, but there’s a way to go yet because if you think about it, every week that goes by is another anniversary – the anniversary of the trip to Blackpool that we all remember, the anniversary of Hayley telling him that she wanted to take her own life, the anniversary of the last Christmas.”
“Roy being Roy has just bottled it up and bottled it up. Added to that is him feeling victimised and bullied by what are essentially just children. It’s all going to explode around Christmas time.”
Previously the powers that be have teased the future of Roy following Hayley’s death, but have promised that there will be no new romance for him in honour of her memory.
