Coronation Street star Alison King hopes Peter and Carla will last

Corrie star Alison King has revealed her hopes for her character Carla Connor’s love affair with bookie Peter Barlow, and they include a lasting relationship.

As fans of the show will know, Peter (Chris Gascoyne) and Carla have been having an affair since just before Christmas, but their secret is due to become public knowledge when Frank Foster’s Private Investigator gets evidence of their affair.

And of course, Peter’s wife Leanne (Jane Danson) is currently in the dark about her husband’s infidelity, but during Frank’s (Andrew Lancel) forthcoming rape trial, when the truth comes out, she’ll be left devastated by the betrayal…

However, back to Alison’s aspirations for a long relationship for Peter and Carla, Digital Spy report that she has discussed her character’s future with the Worksop Guardian.

Beginning with the revelation that Frank hired a PI to spy on Carla and Peter, Alison said, “Carla doesn’t have an inkling that there’s a private detective on her case at all.

“Although why, I don’t know – I think she should suspect it from Frank. I think she thinks they’ve been quite careful.

“[Carla and Peter have] got together and that’s been such a help to her. He’s such a crutch for her and she’s needed him through this.

“She thinks she’s played it pretty cool and got it just where it ought to be. They’ve not let anybody know, but they plan to let everybody know once the court case is done.

“I think in her mind, it’s none of their business, but of course it’s going to affect the case.”

Of the future for the couple, Alison – who’s also starred in Coupling, Dream Team and was the ‘face’ of Boddington’s beer – said, “The future for Carla and Peter? Well, I hope it’s a long one – because I love working with Chris Gascoyne.

“He’s very funny – he makes me belly-laugh a lot! On the other hand, Carla and Peter is a recipe for disaster.

“They’re both alcoholics and there’s a beautiful young boy in the midst of that who they’re trying to parent.

“Keep watching because that should be very, very interesting.”

Indeed it will, but for now, here’s a glimpse of Alison in the Boddington ad…
