Corrie star Georgia May Foote has revealed that she’s worried that fans of the show will hate her when we see her character, Katy Armstong, telling her boyfriend Chesney Brown that they can’t afford to pay for an operation which may save Ches’s beloved dog Schmeichel.
As we reported yesterday, Ches (Sam Aston) is about to face the heartbreak of having to have Schmeichel put to sleep, and Katy, who is of course worried about the bills and the fact that they have no cash saved for when their baby’s born, will tell Ches it’s the right thing to do under the circumstances.
Digital Spy report that while appearing on This Morning, Georgia said, “I was a bit ‘oh, I’m going to get hate mail’, because I’m being quite mean…
“But really she’s just thinking about the baby.”
Georgia – who’s also starred as Alison Simmons in Grange Hill, Charley Witham in Life on Mars and Katy Barnes in Doctors – went on to reveal that she can understand how viewers have become attached to Schmeichel, given he’s been in the show for over seven years…
And of course, nobody wants to lose a soapy pet!
She added, “Everyone loves little Chesney and he has always had his dog and I come along and kick the dog out!”
On the subject of the fact that Katy’s dad Owen (Ian Puleston-Davies) bails her and Chesney out of the current financial scrape – they received a notice of eviction in a previous episode – Georgia revealed, “He’s really softened over the whole idea of them having a baby and stuff.”
And when asked what lies ahead in the immediate future for Ches and Katy, Georgia said, “They’re trying their hardest and they will get through it.”
Let’s hope so, but in the meantime, let’s take a quick look at the demise of another soap dog, which had the nation in tears…
