Corrie star Jane Danson has reportedly asked the shows bosses to write her character Leanne Barlow out of the show’s storylines in 2012.

However, according to the Daily Star, Jane intends to return at some point but for now, she wants to take a few months off.

As fans of the show will know, as Leanne, Jane has been central to many of the show’s major storylines in 2011, including of course last New Year’s plotline which saw Leanne marry Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) in hospital when it was feared he would die after the tram crash.

Since then, Leanne has been through dozens of traumas, including a miscarriage, getting to know her mum Stella Price (Michelle Collins) and reuniting with Peter after they split, but he is now of course having an affair with Carla Connor (Alison King).

And in the New Year, Leanne is set to find out about the affair when she attends Frank Foster’s (Andrew Lancel) rape trial and finds out that Frank hired a PI to tail Peter and Carla and take pictures of them kissing…

As has been reported recently, Frank will be found not guilty of rape largely based on the evidence of Peter and Carla’s affair, which Carla will deny under oath, until she’s presented with the photographic evidence of their liaison.

The paper reports that Leanne’s final scenes in Weatherfield – for now – will see little Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) begging her not to leave, but as Peter has told Leanne that he loves Carla and wants a life with her, Leanne feels she has no choice but to leave the area.

Jane recently said of her character, “I do think that to make any future happy times believable, they have to be apart for a considerable amount of time.”

Let’s take a look back at a few of Leanne’s major plotlines in 2011…
