Kym and her fiancé Jamie Lomas – who plays Warren Fox in Hollyoaks – welcomed their daughter Polly into the world earlier this year, however, before Polly came along, the couple endured the loss of their son Archie, who was just hours old when he died.
And Kym’s pregnancy with Polly was fraught with complications, and at one stage, it was feared she may not survive.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Kym has confessed that she feels she can’t go through the trauma of another pregnancy.
She said, “To have another child would mean me putting myself through so much and it would be really traumatic…
“It wouldn’t be fair to myself or my family and I’m very lucky with the children I’ve got.
“I’ve suffered with the baby blues and it has been stressful. But luckily not so serious that I’ve had to take any medication.
“I think a lot of it is from lack of sleep as initially Polly was only sleeping for three hours at a stretch at night.
“She kept bringing up all her milk and when doctors ran some tests, they diagnosed reflux.
“A lot of premature babies apparently have feeding issues due to their immature digestive system.
“I did try to breastfeed her but I wasn’t making enough milk and it was holding back her development. She’s better now but it’s a huge shock to the system.
“It’s 13 years since I looked after a newborn so it feels like I’m starting all over again – but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
And having returned to the set of Corrie last month, Kym revealed that she misses Polly desperately when she’s at work.
She said, “It’s hard being away from her. When I had David and Emily [her teenaged children from a previous relationship] I was a stay-at-home mum and I only went out to work when Emily was three.
“But there are other cast members that have small children and they’ve come back to work when their babies are six months old, and it’s the same for me.
“Plus we have a nanny and Jamie has finished Hollyoaks now, so he’s around more, too.”
Kym went on to say that after a 10-month absence, returning to the was a daunting prospect.
She said, “Generally, you leave work just before you are about to give birth but I had to leave when I was about 16 weeks pregnant.
“At 17 weeks, my consultant noticed my cervix was opening and they had to put in a stitch to stop me miscarrying.
“Doctors told me I had to stop work and Corrie wrote me out as quickly as they could.
“Although I kept in touch with people like Beverley Callard (Liz McDonald), Ali King (Carla Connor) and Antony Cotton (Sean Tully) when I was off, I felt nervous going back, as I had big scenes to film.”
We’ll see Kym returning to the show on November 3.
