Coronation Street: Sunita Alahan to become the latest Rovers barmaid!

by Lynn Connolly

It’s been reported today that after telling husband Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) where to stick his job in the shop, feisty Sunita Alahan will take a job in the Rovers…

Which is sure to infuriate and humiliate him!

The Daily Star reports that Sunita’s shock move will come after she sees Dev lavishing attention on his daughter Amber (Nikki Patel) and letting her get away with having days off and being late for work.

But as viewers will probably know, by Christmas, Amber’s going to be embroiled in a love triangle with Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) and Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson) so she’s probably more intent on all that then being stood behind the counter at the shop.

However, while Amber’s busy wrapping her dad around her little finger, he’ll be putting pressure on his wife, mum of two Sunita – who’s played by Shobna Gulati – to take up the slack…

The paper states that Sunita will tell a bemused Dev, “I’m not taking any more of this.

“I’m fed up of being treated like a slave while Amber gets away with murder…

“So you can take this job and shove it, because I’m out of here.”

She then goes to Stella Price (Michelle Collins) looking for work, and is overjoyed when Stella immediately offers her a job.

We’ll see this storyline play out in the New Year, and it’ll certainly be interesting to see Sunita pulling pints!

But it’s not the biggest storyline Shobna’s ever had, given that her character has previously been seen escaping an arranged marriage, then later being diagnosed with an aneurysm and a brain tumour.

After all that went down, she was then falsely imprisoned, held hostage, had twins – becoming a single parent after divorcing Dev – and more recently, survived the tram crash.

So a job in the Rovers seems a tad small fry by comparison!

Here’s a clip of Dev and Sunita getting married back in 2004, which didn’t end well on the day…
