Coronation Street’s Ben Price admits Nick’s proposal to Leanne is disastrous set up!

Coronation Street star Ben Price has revealed that when his character proposes to his girlfriend, it doesn’t go exactly according to plan!

Price, who plays Nick Tilsley in the award-winning ITV soap, decides to propose to his one true love, and former wife, Leanne Barlow (Jane Danson) after being egged on by his sister-in-law, Kylie Platt (Paula Lane).

However, unbeknown to Nick, Kylie knows full well that Leanne will say no to marrying him a second time, but convinces Nick to propose anyway in hope that it will break the couple up, as she hates Leanne!

And Kylie is not working alone! She has recruited Leanne’s half-sister, Eva (Catherine Tyldesley), who is still somewhat of a woman scorned having been dumped by Nick for Leanne earlier this year, and between them they manage to convince him that Leanne is looking for a bigger commitment from him.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Price explained: “Kylie suggests to Nick that he should ask Leanne to marry him, knowing full well that Leanne would say no.

“Kylie doesn’t want them to be together, she hates Leanne! Leanne looks down her nose at Kylie and she wants payback.”

He added: “Kylie persuades him that Leanne would love it if he made a grand gesture and popped the question at the Bistro – but of course, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

“Nick ignores all his own instincts and decides to go ahead with proposing to Leanne.”

Asked whether his proposal is accepted, Price replied: “It’s not likely. In fact, I think she’ll react very badly. Nick is optimistic, though.

“He reckons if he asks Leanne to marry him in a public place then she won’t be able to turn him down. But I think he’s in for a very rude awakening!”
