Coronation Street’s birthday treat for Bill Roache
Coronation Street legend, Bill Roache, was given a birthday to remember, when cast and crew presented him with a special celebration, on live TV.
Bill Roache, who has played Ken Barlow on the ITV soap since it first began back in 1960, celebrated his 80th birthday yesterday on the famous set of Coronation Street, joined by cast and crew, and a few million live viewers.
ITV daytime show, This Morning, cut across live to the Manchester studio to capture the veteran’s surprise as Chris Fountain, who plays Tommy Duckworth, presented the actor, in the Guinness book of records for playing the same character in a soap for longer than anyone else, with a cobble shaped birthday cake.
Fellow Street stars Alison King, Jennie McAlpine, Antony Cotton, Andrew Lancel, Chris Gascoyne and Natalie Gumede were also on hand to wish many happy returns to the Weatherfield legend.
