Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley signs new six figure contract to stay on soap for another year!
After what has been a phenomenal first year on the cobbles of Weatherfield, Catherine Tyldesley has reportedly signed a contract to stay on Coronation Street for the next 12 months.
And bosses were so desperate to keep Tyldesley, who plays soap siren Eva Price in the award-winning ITV1 soap, they reportedly offered her a six figure salary to make sure she signed on the dotted line!
According to the Daily Star newspaper Catherine, who starred in a supporting role as the prison warden who befriended Ryan Lamb (James Sutton) in Emmerdale before landing her current Corrie role, has been offered a £100,000 package to keep her playing woman-scorned Eva as the New Year looks set to bring much more drama for the factory worker!
Fans of the hit soap will know how Catherine’s character, Eva, was instrumental in her ex-boyfriend, Nick’s (Ben Price) decision to call off his wedding to her half-sister, Leanne (Jane Danson) after she revealed to him, and the rest of the congregation, how Leanne had paid her ex, Peter (Chris Gascoyne) a visit on route to the wedding.
Eva had been plotting to split the couple up ever since Nick chose Leanne over her, and her resentment and bitterness has spiralled into a torrent campaign to get her man back.
A source close to the actress told the publication: “She’s had an absolute ball playing Eva and is thrilled to be able to commit to the show for another year. She was very close to the end of her contract and wasn’t sure if it was going to be renewed so it was a nice surprise.
“It was a no-brainer for her when they offered her the deal and she can’t wait to see what is in store for Eva this year.”
This move comes as part of an initiative from new producer, Stuart Blackburn, to keep hold of his most talented and popular cast members following the shocking departure of Helen Flanagan last year.
The source continued: “Eva has proved to be one of Corrie’s most popular characters since her arrival last year.
“Catherine has done a great job with her and the script writers felt they had barely scratched the surface with what Eva has to offer.
“Losing the likes of Sacha Parkinson, who played Sian, and Helen Flanagan has been a big blow to the show and producers didn’t want Catherine going anywhere.
“Stuart’s made it clear he wants the brightest talent at Corrie to remain there.”
