John Michie, who plays cheating Karl Munroe in Coronation Street, has spoken about his character’s current affair storyline.
The actor, who’s alter ego Karl is cheating on his partner, Stella (Michelle Collins), with her friend and employee Sunita (Shobna Gulati), has revealed to Inside Soap magazine his excitement over the storyline, and his prediction of an explosive reaction when Stella finds out what he has been up to.
Fans of the popular ITV soap have watched Karl Munroe start an illicit affair with married barmaid, Sunita, over the last few weeks, with the couple even acquiring a love nest right above the head of Sunita’s husband, Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) in the flat above the shop he owns.
Talking to the magazine, Michie said: “When Stella finds out about the affair, she’s going to want to kill Karl. It would probably be treated as a crime of passion, too! Stella has put a lot of faith in Karl, so that total abuse of trust will completely devastate her.
“As an actor, I’m looking forward to the moment when she does find out, whichever way it ends up being written. There’s very little doubt that the sparks will start flying.”
Michie also discussed the arrival of Stella’s mum Gloria, who will be played by legendary Brookside and Royle Family star, Sue Johnston, confirming that his character will be on good terms with the mother-in-law when she shows up in Weatherfield in episodes to air on our screens in the next few weeks.
He said: “Karl actually gets on with Gloria really well. She also quite likes him, and they have good banter. But she’ll surely hate him if he hurts her daughter in any way.”
