Coronation Street’s Johnny Briggs challenges Bill Roache’s notch count!

by Anna Howell

On screen they were bitter rivals, and now it would seem that not even death can end that rivalry, as former Coronation Street actor, Johnny Briggs proves by claiming that his female company count is considerably higher than that of William Roache’s.

Baldwin and Barlow were notorious rivals in the show, with Baldwin having seduced Ken’s wife, Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) away from her husband on several occasions, not to mention breaking his daughter’s heart and getting her pregnant.

Yet when the old, Alzheimer suffering factory owner passed away from a severe heart attack in 2006, it was in Barlow’s arms, but he still managed to get in the last word, declaring:  ” ‘You’re finished Barlow,  Deirdre loves me, she’s mine.”

Roache made the recent claims about his promiscuous past to a newspaper, saying that he had slept with hundreds of women before settling down with his second wife, Sara, but that looking back he wasn’t proud of his actions, commenting:
“Looking back, I didn’t know any better. But what I did find out is it does not bring you happiness and it is not the way to be.

“I had the opportunity, I indulged it and I can tell you this – it’s not worth it. The pain that it caused, and there’s all sorts of dangers.

Briggs, who played factory owner, Mike Baldwin in the ITV soap for over 30 years,  has claimed that he could beat Roache’s recent claim that he had slept with over a thousand women.

Briggs said: “I’m amazed that Bill Roache said he’s slept with that many women.

“What goes on in the bedroom stays in the bedroom. I was a bit of a ladies’ man myself.

“I don’t know if I can say how many I’ve bedded, but it’s probably more than him.”
