Coronation Street’s Kym Marsh (Michelle Connor) confirms drug storyline for son Ryan (Sol Heras)

Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor in Coronation Street, has confirmed the rumours that have been doing the rounds for months, that her newly cast son on the show, Ryan Connor, will be at the centre of a very deep and dark (and somewhat surprising) storyline, centred around drugs!

Ryan Connor, who left our screens last year to embark on University life in Scotland, is set to return to our screens, played by new actor Sol Heras, after original actor, Ben Thompson, decided not to reprise the role himself, later this summer, harbouring a few huge secrets.
Since Ryan’s return was announced, there have been several stories released hinting that the troubled teen, who was left heartbroken when he discovered his ex girlfriend, Sian, had fallen in love with her best friend, Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent), would come back to the cobbles with a suitcase full of skeletons to unpack into his wardrobe at home, and it would seem that they were not wrong!

Speaking to All About Soap magazine, Marsh, who is engaged to former Hollyoaks actor, Jamie Lomas, has confirmed that when Ryan returns to our screens he will be like a completely different person (well he will certainly look like one that’s for sure)  and that his desperately worried mum will learn that he was kicked out of uni, and has become a drug user.

His return is set to cast a dark shadow over the street, as Michelle tries desperately to get him back on the straight and narrow, but things are set to go from bad to worse when he soon enlists the most surprising ever drug buddy – bible bashing Sophie Webster!

Speaking to the magazine, Marsh explained: “Ryan’s been off doing his own thing, and has got heavily involved in drugs. Michelle expected him to come back as the same kid he was before he went away, but that’s not going to happen.”

When asked how the storyline would affect her own character and how Michelle will take the news, Marsh said: “Very hard. Michelle’s got her work cut out trying to get Ryan back on the straight and narrow, but we’ll see her get support from outside influences.

Executive Producer, Phil Collinson said at the time of casting: “Ryan returns with a dark secret and Michelle has the fight of her life as she battles to get her son back on the straight and narrow.”

Viewers can see Ryan’s return to the cobbles in July.
