As previously reported, when Michelle Keegan leaves Coronation Street later this year, her character Tina McIntyre will be murdered by another Street resident in the biggest who-dunnit murder mystery the soap has seen in years.

However, it wasn’t always going to be like that – Originally Keegan had been promised that the door would be left open for Tina should she wish to return in the future.

As we reported earlier this week, Keegan herself has admitted that she was disappointed and gutted for Tina that producers changed their minds about her exit, but according to big boss Stuart Blackburn, her exit will be “spectacular”.

Blackburn, who was the person to announce the murder recently, explained that the exit will be “incredible” in a recent interview with Bang Showbiz, adding:

”We’ve got some massive stories coming up that are really different.

“Everybody knows Tina’s going; it’s going to be an incredible, spectacular exit and it’s going to take us right through autumn and December. It’s going to be massive.”

Tina’s killer is set to be one of the show’s regular characters, with suspects including Carla Barlow (Alison King) whose husband Tina has been having an affair with, Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) who has been having the affair and Tracey Barlow (Kate Ford) whose boyfriend Tina kissed to try and make Peter jealous, but according to Blackburn we will have to wait a long time to find out exactly who is responsible, teasing:

“You’ll know well before Christmas.”

Keegan’s reasons for leaving the show were in part to move to London to be close to her fiancé, former TOWIE star Mark Wright.

Coronation Street, which picked up all the majority of soap awards at last week’s National Television Awards, continues on Monday at 7.30pm on ITV1 / ITV1 HD – Watch an interview with Michelle Keegan in the clip below:

Seriously fed up with ‘spectacular’, ‘explosive’ exits. We know what happens next, the wrong person gets banged up leading to a free the Weatherfield one, two three campaign – yawn, yawn.
