Christmas is rarely a happy time for the people who live in soap land, and statistically, you’re more likely to give birth, die, or endure a natural disaster during the festive season than at any other time of the year.
And that scary fact is borne out by the news that on Boxing Day, Coronation Street resident Fiz Stape is going to lapse into a coma, the victim of carbon monoxide poisoning from her dodgy central heating boiler!
Which is bad news for her lover – they will be having a full-on affair by Christmas – Tyrone Dobbs, because he ‘fixed’ the boiler for Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) so not only will he bear the guilt of thinking he could be responsible for her life or death state, but questions may be asked that will doubtless clue his nutty fiancé Kirsty Soames (Natalie Gumede) into the fact he’s sleeping with Fiz…
Alan Halsall, who plays luckless Tyrone, has been speaking to the Radio Times about the plotline, and he began the interview by saying, “He can’t believe he is possibly going to lose yet another person who he loves.”
Of Ty’s attempts at fixing Fiz’s boiler, he said, “He thinks he knows what he’s doing because he fixes cars.
“But, of course, the last thing he should be doing is fixing a boiler. He’s not qualified at all and it’s such a risky thing to do.”
The scene for Fiz’s drama is set when it’s revealed that her brother Chesney (Sam Aston) and his girlfriend Katy (Georgia May Foote) have left Fiz home alone, having gone on holiday with Anna (Debbie Rush) and Owen (Ian Puleston-Davies).
However, their absence does of course mean that it makes it easier for Tyrone and Fiz to carry out their affair.
But Alan added, “She might die and it would be his fault…
“But he knows that if he comes clean about messing with the boiler then Kirsty will know he was at the house and the whole affair will be exposed.”
And of course, as he fears Kirsty will find out about the affair, Tyrone won’t be able to even go and visit with Fiz in hospital.
Of that Alan said, “It’s impossible – he has to pretend to Kirsty that he isn’t interested in how Fiz is, when all he wants to do is rush to her bedside.
“He’s totally in love with Fiz – they belong together and they would make such a lovely family with the two girls.”
Aww I’d love to see Fiz and Tyrone ending up together, would you?
For now, here’s a reminder of somewhat happier times on the romance front for Tyrone…
