Corrie: Jimmi Harkishin says he’d advise Dev Alahan to throw cheating wife Sunita out!
As fans of Coronation Street will know, Sunita Alahan is having an affair with taxi driver Karl Munro (John Michie) and while speaking to Soaplife about what advice he’d give his character Dev, Jimmi Harkishin has revealed that he’d tell him to throw her out.
Dev is of course Sunita’s (Shobna Gulati) shopkeeper husband, however, having fallen in love with Karl, Dev won’t need to throw Sunita out as she’s going of her own accord!
Speaking to Soaplife about what happens when Sunita decides to leave Dev, Jimmi explained that the drama takes place against the backdrop of the Street’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
He said, “Dev is dressed as Adam Ant [for a street party], Karl is Tom Jones and Sunita is Beyonce, so it is quite comical.
“Karl dives behind the counter. It’s a heightened Corrie reality and funny because he doesn’t catch them at it.
“It’s much more serious when he finally confronts her about whether there is someone else…”
Jimmi – whose given name is Rajan Harkinshindas –went on to say that Sunita tells Dev that she doesn’t love him anymore, and of Dev’s reaction to that, he said, “He deeply loves his children and cares about the family unit.
“This happening has made him stand up and take stock.
“It’s like someone holding up a mirror to him and making him look at his life and question it.”
Jimmi, who’s also starred in East is East and Bhaji on the Beach, added that Dev has suspected for a while now that Sunita’s been having an affair, and in a desperate plea to make her stay, Dev tells her that he’ll forgive her for it if she stays with him.
He explained, “He says to her, ‘I know there is somebody else, but I don’t want to know any details just come back’.
“He’s devastated, but he is prepared to take a lot and forgive a lot if it means keeping his family together.
“I don’t know if he’s ever going to find out her lover is Karl and it would be great to have that sitting there as a time bomb with the viewers knowing something Dev doesn’t know.”
And finally, when asked, “What advice would you give to Dev if he was your friend?” Jimmi said, “I would say, ‘Dev, mate, you’ve tried your best. Throw her out and find a 22-year-old with a bit of cash.’”
Don’t miss that drama this coming weekend.
