Corrie: Marc Baylis arrives on set as Rob Donovan, and Shobna Gulati’s rant at “misogynists”

Coronation Street newbie Marc Baylis – who is #fitas – yesterday arrived at the show’s set to begin filming in the role of Carla Connor’s no-good brother, Rob Donovan.

As fans of the show will know, Carla (Alison King) is about to depart Weatherfield for a few months, and in her absence, Rob’s set to stir up a whole load of trouble, and steal the hearts of a few of the Street’s ladies!

As you can see in the picture above, he was photographed alongside Kym Marsh, who of course plays Carla’s former sister-in-law, Michelle Connor, and as Kym recently revealed that she’d like to see her character having a new romance, perhaps her wish is about to come true.

Rob, who’s also starred in The Bill, Law and Order: UK, Sirens and Misfits, will be seen on our screens for the first time in July.

Meanwhile, Shobna Gulati, who plays cheating wife Sunita Alahan, has ranted at the misogynistic attitude of some viewers towards the show’s female characters…

Sunita is of course having an affair with Karl Munro (John Michie) and as we reported earlier, she’s about to leave husband Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) who knows she’s seeing someone else.

However, taking to Twitter to respond to some of the negative comments from fans about Sunita cheating on Dev, Shobna wrote, “Use of the word ‘slag’ for a woman who is ‘cheating’commonplace with you tweeters and nothing is said about the man.

“WOW #justsayin #baffled.”

She later added, “Since doing this story about sunita and being back on twitter I realise that we are still in a world of misogynists #2012…yawn yawn yawn bored of the misogyny now!”

And when one of Shobna’s followers suggested that the negativity could be because Sunita’s affair portrayed her as a hypocrite, Shobna replied, “Change is as good as a rest…maybe but most people are [hypocrites] when u scratch the surface great debate…. That’s the beauty of drama !”

Do you agree with Shobna’s point that cheating women are slammed while cheating men are sometimes patted on the back for their behaviour?
