Corrie: Michelle Collins reveals how Stella Price and Jason Grimshaw begin their passionate affair!

by Lynn Connolly

Fans of Coronation Street may know that Rovers landlady Stella Price and builder Jason Grimshaw are about to embark on a passionate affair which begins when Jason – who’s played by Ryan Thomas – offers Stella a shoulder to cry on when her ex, Karl Munro, tries yet again to get back with her…

Karl (John Michie) of course broke Stella’s heart when she discovered that he was having an affair with Sunita Alahan (Shobna Gulati) who he currently lives with. However, viewers know that as far as Karl’s concerned, Sunita is very much second best, and he bitterly regrets losing Stella.

And as mentioned, he’s set to attempt a charm offensive as Christmas approaches in a bid to win back Stella’s heart, and in the Radio Times this week, Michelle Collins – who of course plays Stella – has revealed what happens with Karl, and how it leads Stella into Jason’s arms!

Michelle began by explaining of her feisty character, “She seems very strong on the outside but, like a lot of women who are assertive, when they get home behind closed doors they can be lonely.

“She would possibly like to have someone around and have some intimacy. But she’d rather be on her own than be with someone just for the sake of it…

“She’s had a few wrong’uns in her life, so she’s at a point where she isn’t prepared to do that.”

Michelle went on to explain that new barmaid Mandy decides to take charge of Stella’s love life and to that end, she sets her up on a blind date.

Michelle said, “The date doesn’t go well at all! He’s completely the wrong person for her. He’s a bit of a plonker, really…

“So Stella ends up walking off, but she bumps into Karl at the same time. It’s all really bad timing because, after the date she’s just had, Karl doesn’t seem that bad!”

She then revealed that when Karl then sends Stella a bouquet of flowers, her character is far from impressed.

She said, “He’s started to think that she does want him back. He’s got the wrong end of the stick.

“But they have a showdown and she tells him there’s no way she would get back with him in a million years.”

So that leads to Stella talking to Jason about her romance troubles, and she’s then shocked when Jason makes a move on her.

Michelle said, “She’s never really thought of him in that way at all. She’s a bit shocked when he comes on to her and she does think it would just be a one-off.

“But she’s mortified when people start saying things. She even apologises to him, so she’s surprised when he says he wants to see her again.

“Then she finds it all quite liberating and even makes an announcement in the pub.”

Michelle added that Stella confronts the locals, telling them, “OK, if you’ve got something to say, say it now!”

It remains to be seen if anyone does, but of playing out the steamy scenes with Ryan, Michelle said, “It is very funny, I’m really enjoying it. The romantic scenes are not very romantic.

“One day, we clashed heads and he ended up with a nose bleed and I got a swollen cheek.

“They were supposed to bring some ice and they brought out a cold potato as it was the only thing they could find.

“So he was there with a bleeding nose and I was holding a potato on my cheek! But I don’t generally mind kissing scenes – you just have to get on with them.

“I don’t find them awkward.”

Here’s a reminder of the moment Stella found out about Karl’s affair with Sunita…

If though this subject matter (older women with younger men) is still considered ‘taboo,’ I would be surprised if there will be a strong following for this couple in fandom. I think there are many middle-aged women who would not mind an opportunity like that even if they did not admit it in the public.
