As fans of Coronation Street will know, Katherine Kelly is leaving the show, and as part of her exit storyline, her character Becky McDonald is set to fall for handsome hotelier, Danny, who’s played by Jeremy Sheffield.
And today, Soaplife report that Jeremy – who has previously starred in Holby City, Merlin, and as a dancer in Queen’s video to their hit track ‘I Want to Break Free’ – has been talking about how his character is set to fall for Becky.
We first met Jeremy in the role of Danny over Christmas when Becky and Steve (Simon Gregson) met up with him in a hotel to hash out a deal to provide his establishment with cabs. It was of course during that meeting that a frantically jealous Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) suffered a miscarriage.
However, back to Jeremy, who explained, “Danny feels very strongly about Becky. He hasn’t felt this way about another woman since his wife died.”
When asked to fill in some blanks about Danny’s history, Jeremy said, “He’s the manager of a large Manchester hotel, which is where he first met Becky doing a Streetcars deal.
“His wife died in an accident four years ago and he has a young son, Billy. He’s a straightforward, stable, good guy.”
And when asked what it is that attracts Becky to Danny, Jeremy said, “She’s quirky, eccentric and funny and he delights in that.
“She’s a strong woman and certainly not a pushover. He was bowled over the minute they met.”
However, when the pair plan a date, things don’t go to plan, and Becky ends up going to Jeremy’s house, where she finds him with his sister and his young son.
Jumping to conclusions, Becky immediately assumes Danny’s sister is his wife, so Danny has to put her straight before she storms off.
Of that, Jeremy said, “She arrives and sees him with his sister and his son, Billy, gets the wrong idea and is about to leave.
“He hasn’t told Becky he has a son so he’s embarrassed, but he brings her in and introduces her.
“She has an instant connection with Billy and Danny’s delighted. It adds to his attraction to her and she stays the night.”
Jeremy then revealed that just as Danny and Becky’s relationship looks like it could be going somewhere, he’s offered a job in Barbados.
Jeremy said, “It’s a fantastic opportunity, but bad timing. He’s devastated because he saw Becky as a chance of happiness of the sort that doesn’t come along very often.
“But he decides to go.”
However, before he leaves Weatherfield, he remembers something that he feels he must tell Becky…
Jeremy explained, “Danny spots Tracy and he remembers how she collapsed and was carted off in an ambulance.
“Becky wonders if this might help her to prove she wasn’t responsible for Tracy’s miscarriage…”
As we reported yesterday, Danny’s revelation leads to Becky enlisting the help of Gail McIntyre (Helen Worth) to prove Tracy was lying about when she lost the babies.
And as to whether Becky leaves with Danny, Jeremy wouldn’t commit, but he did say, “For Danny it could be a risk worth taking…”
