Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson has teased fans of the show, saying that Christmas on the cobbles will be “amazing!”
Revealing that Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Leanne Barlow (Jane Danson) will be at the heart of the festive storylines with a will-they-won’t-they marry plotline, Collinson also revealed that the return of Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and Carla Connor (Alison King) is set to put the cat among the pigeons with regard to Leanne and Nick’s big day.
He also hinted that there’s a very big yuletide storyline for the Platt family, saying that “a dark secret” will be exposed, and when it is, it could “blow the Platts apart.”
And while speaking to the Daily Star, Paula Lane, who of course plays feisty Kylie Platt, has offered further teasers, saying, “I can’t say much, but viewers will see Kylie is trying to up her game in the world.
“You’ll see some heart-wrenching scenes. She spills out her emotions to Gail, the only mother figure she’s ever had…”
Back now to what Collinson has revealed lies in store for the nation’s favourite Street, and it seems that Lloyd Mullaney (Craig Charles) is going to set up home with his former girlfriend Mandy (Pamela Nomvete) who of course is about to confess that she’s kept a very big secret from him; he’s her daughter Jenna’s (Krissi Bohn) dad!
Of Lloyd and Mandy’s romantic reunion, Collinson said, “It’s early days for them, but she is going to settle in Weatherfield with him.
“We’ll have to wait and see what happens next, but the first few months for them centres around Lloyd’s realization [about Jenna] and then him forming a bond with his daughter after she initially rejects him…
“When Mandy and Lloyd do get together, we’ll also explore what his daughter thinks about that.”
Moving on then to what Collinson said of the Platt family Christmas drama, Collinson told Digital Spy, “Something is going to happen over Christmas to Kylie, and that’s going to be huge and momentous.
“It’s going to begin a story that will take us right the way through next year. It’s potentially a dark secret that could blow the Platts apart.”
And finally, of Nick and Leanne’s marriage plans, Collinson said, “There are definitely lots of twists and turns ahead in Nick and Leanne’s story, but if I’m absolutely honest, I don’t know where they’re going to end up.
“There’s a wedding at Christmas, but will it go ahead? I’m not sure whether it will or not! That will obviously coincide with Peter’s return.
“I find the Peter, Carla, Nick and Leanne ‘love square’ really fascinating, and I love all four of those characters…
“So they’ll feature in a big story for us over Christmas and into the New Year.”
Finally, he said, “I can promise it’s going to be an amazing Christmas on Coronation Street this year.”
