Corrie: Ryan Thomas is staying on the show and is one of four cast members who’re off to Africa!

Fans of Ryan Thomas, who of course plays the role of Jason Grimshaw in Corrie, will doubtless be pleased to hear that he has renewed his contract to stay with the soap for at least another year.

Likewise, Alan Halsall, who plays battered husband Tyrone Dobbs, has also renewed his contract with the show.

Alan took to Twitter to announce the good news, writing, “Exclusive! Ha not much of 1. I’m delighted to say I signed my new contract 2day @ corrie!

“Good news if ya a fan but not for @NatalieGumede x”

He was of course joking about his co-star Natalie, who plays Tyrone’s fiancé Kirsty Soames…

The pair have been involved in a domestic abuse storyline, in which Tyrone has fallen victim to Kirsty’s temper.

A show insider confirmed the news, telling the Daily Star, “Tyrone is one of the Street’s most-loved characters, so there was no way Phil [Collinson] was going to let [Halsall] go anywhere.

”He has big plans for him and Natalie.”

And of Ryan also being signed up for another year, the insider said, “Ryan is over the moon to be staying. He celebrated by buying a cockatiel…

“It’s all he’s been talking about. Some of the cast have even nicknamed him Captain Hook!

”Jason’s a really popular character, particularly with female viewers, so fans will be pleased to hear he is staying on.”

And for Ryan, his Corrie adventure is about to get more exciting as he and co-stars Ben Price, Brooke Vincent and Sue Cleaver are about to jet off to Africa to film a documentary designed to highlight awareness of the HIV crisis that’s beset the country.

To be entitled, Corrie Goes To Kenya, the film is expected to air in July.

A member of the show’s production team said of the film, “This trip will be a real eye-opener. The cast will come face to face with people whose lives could not be more different from their own.

”When you talk to people affected by these problems, the impact is huge.

“And the Corrie stars are desperate to help in any way that they can.”
