Coronation Street’s Nick Tilsley is a man in turmoil, and it’s about to get a whole lot worse when his sister-in-law Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) reveals to him that she’s pregnant, and following their one night stand on what should have been Nick’s first night as a married man, he could be the baby’s father!
The couple of course fell into each other’s arms – and the honeymoon suite’s four poster bed – after Nick ditched his fiancé Leanne Barlow (Jane Danson) at the altar on Christmas Day following Eva’s revelation that Leanne went to see her ex-husband Peter (Chris Gascoyne) on the morning of the wedding to “offer him first refusal.”
Cunning Eva’s (Catherine Tyldesley) plan to split Nick and Leanne up then of course worked, but in doing so, she alienated herself from Nick, who now hates her for taking such pleasure in trashing his life…
However, since the aborted wedding, Leanne has vowed to do whatever it takes to get Nick back, and as we heard in last night’s episode of Corrie, she’s even rebooked their wedding.
But the big question is, will Nick say ‘Yes’ to marrying her again? Or will he tell her where she can shove her wedding cake?
Well, that remains to be seen, but Ben Price – who of course plays Bistro owner Nick – has told Soaplife that in a strange twist, Nick’s night of passion with Kylie has “balanced things out” and he could well be ready to try to make a go of things with Leanne.
Ben began the interview by explaining what Nick was thinking on the night he slept with Kylie.
He said, “It started as just two people having a drink…
“Kylie had had an absolute nightmare with David and Nick had fallen out with Leanne.
“What you saw was two people who thought their relationships had come to an end.”
Ben went on to reveal that in an upcoming episode, Nick loses it and in a rage over the situation with himself, Leanne and Peter, he smashes up the Bistro after punching Peter!
Of those dramatic scenes, Ben said, “I wanted to show that there is a point where Nick’s head goes.
“Everyone has that point, no matter how measured and calm they usually are.
“He is sick of Peter, sick of Leanne, sick of his family – and he has slept with his sister-in-law!”
As we reported earlier this week, when Leanne sees what Nick’s done, she assumes it’s down to how upset she’s made him, and she vows then to leave Weatherfield so as to enable Nick to move on with his life.
Of that, Ben said, “She thinks that she is the reason Nick is like he is, but of course that is only part of the story. This is a turning point for him…
“Leanne is there when he is at his lowest point and he does love her.
“[But] that’s what’s so clever about him sleeping with Kylie…
“If that hadn’t happened there wouldn’t have been a future for Nick and Leanne. In Nick’s mind it balances things.
“He realises he has made a big mistake, too, so he feels he can build bridges with Leanne.
“He’s angry with her because of Peter, but guilty over what he did with Kylie. Now he’s thinking, ‘I will get married and it will all be fine’.”
But teasing Kylie’s pregnancy news, Ben added, “There’s a shock development to come which puts a bomb under everything…
“It’s one of the most destructive things you can have happen to a family.”
Yikes! We will of course keep you posted on any new spoilers, but for now, here’s a look back at the Christmas Day episode…
