As fans of Corrie will know, lesbian teens Sophie Webster and Sian Powers plan to get married soon, however, there’s to be a rather large spanner in their nuptial works in the form of Amber (Nikki Patel) who Sophie has fallen for.
Sophie is of course played by Brooke Vincent, and Sian is portrayed by Sacha Parkinson, who is leaving the show following Sophie and Sian’s break up.
Of the storyline, Brooke told Soaplife that as devout Christian Sophie and Sian are at the altar, Sophie just cannot bring herself to make the vows to Sian that in her heart, she doesn’t mean.
Brooke said, “She thinks that as soon as she’s said ‘I do’ and she’s married it will all be OK.”
But it’s far from OK, particularly given that Amber’s one of the couple’s bridesmaids…
Brooke added of Sophie, “She has to put aside her feelings for Amber and she’s trying to get through it.
”Amber says it would look weird if she backed out [of being a bridesmaid] but Sophie says, ‘You can’t be there, that’s why I’m doing this – to get away from you! You being there will make it worse.’
“Sophie feels hatred for Amber, but there’s a thin line between love and hate. She feels more for Amber than she’s letting on.
“With Sian it’s straightforward guilt.”
Brooke went on to reveal that on the morning of the wedding, Sophie’s dad Kevin (Michael Le Vell) asks her if she really wants to go through with it.
Of that, Brooke said, “Sophie’s wedding day is a day of tears. Her dad asks if she’s sure she can go through with it and the moment gets to her.
“They have a strong bond and he’s voicing what she’s thinking, but she stays strong because she truly believes that once the pastor says she and Sian are married it will all go away.”
However, during the wedding, Sophie’s reluctance to go through with it becomes overwhelming, and when it comes to making her vows, she just can’t.
Brooke said, “She’s a bit overwhelmed and thinks the words are going to come naturally to her and they don’t.
“She looks about and sees crosses everywhere and the pastor and her friends and family looking at her and she starts to crumble. Can she lie in front of God?”
Devastated by Sophie’s refusal to say her vows, Sian runs out of the church, heartbroken. Sophie runs after her, but is there really anything she can say to Sian that will mend the damage done?
Brooke said, “Sophie just thinks she needs to get to Sian, explain it was nerves and persuade her to come back into the church.
“She doesn’t think for one minute this is the end of everything.
“She realises how much she loves Sian and wants to be with her. Now she has to work on persuading Sian that is what she wants.”
Well good luck with that Sophie, but of course, it isn’t going to happen! But will Sophie end up with Amber?
I can’t wait to find out!
