In forthcoming episodes of Coronation Street, friends – and soon to be lovers – Marcus Dent and Maria Connor are going to find themselves unable to deny the attraction between them any longer, which is amply demonstrated after the pair fall into bed together…

However, as Charlie Condou – who of course plays Marcus – has revealed to Soaplife, the passionate twist happens after his character and Maria (Samia Ghadie) have a row!

Charlie began by explaining how come BFFs Marcus and Maria have a row. He said, “Marcus finds out Maria talked [his boyfriend] Aiden out of taking a job in London and gets really angry because he feels like she’s interfering.

“But I think his anger is also based on the fact that Marcus knows deep down that his relationship with Aiden is not right for him…

“They have a big row about it and Maria eventually admits that she did it because she’s in love with Marcus.

“This really takes him by surprise and I think he realises that he can’t deny his feelings for her either.

“They fall into each other’s arms and have a very passionate embrace.”

Charlie went on to say that Maria and Marcus then spend a passionate night together.

He said, “They get taken over by the emotions of the moment and one thing leads very quickly to another!

“The next day is a big shock for both of them.”

Charlie added that as Marcus has never slept with a woman before, and has never had any reason to think he’s anything other than gay, the whole thing knocks him for six!

He said, “He says in one of the later scenes that he has never cheated on anyone before and has certainly never slept with a woman before.”

And when asked if Marcus is in love with Maria, Charlie said, “He thinks he is, but he’s incredibly confused.

“It’s like everything in his life has been turned upside-down, like everything he has ever known about himself is suddenly in question and it doesn’t feel nice.”

Charlie went on to reveal that in his confusion, Marcus will decide that he has to move out of Maria’s flat, and he tells her that he’s going to live with Aiden.

Of that, Charlie explained, “I think he’s just doing a classic running away from the situation. Marcus thinks that if he chooses this path he can continue to be the happy-go-lucky guy he has always been.

“Marcus decides the best thing to do is to tell her that she should forget about him because he’s gay.

“But when Aiden arrives at the flat to pick him up he realises that he just can’t leave and that Aiden is the wrong person for him.”

And of course, it’s been reported today that as a result of that one night of passion, Maria is set to become pregnant with Marcus’s baby!

Charlie’s final words on the storyline were, “That means there are troublesome times ahead!”

Indeed it does!

Here’s a reminder of the scenes during which Marcus and Maria found out they’re more than just mates…
