Chris Fountain, who of course plays Tommy Duckworth in Corrie, has revealed that if he wins the award for Best Newcomer at the forthcoming National Television Awards, he intends to dedicate it to his gran, Joyce, who died in December.
Chris, who’s also starred in Hollyoaks, Where the Heart Is and The Royal, told the Sun’s TV Biz, “It’s my first year on Corrie so it would be great to win.
“It would also be nice for my gran who died before Christmas. It would be a great tribute.
“She was proud I was nominated and was voting for me before she went. All the awards I won at Hollyoaks were on her mantelpiece.”
He said, “Alan takes the mick all the time. I give it him back but his main focal point is that I didn’t win Dancing on Ice.
“That gets brought up at least once a day on the set.
“He says, ‘We only want champions on this show and you came second, so as far as I’m concerned you were the loser’.
“If I win the Best Newcomer award I can hit him on the head with it!”
However, Chris is hoping that his legion of female fans will vote for him.
He said, “I wouldn’t consider myself a heart-throb but I’m a young lad on Coronation Street — it’s flattering, it’s nice.”
Chris then joked, “My mum thinks I’m good looking, anyway.”
He was then asked for details about Tommy’s forthcoming new relationship with Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan), of which he said, “Tommy has cooled off the womanising and is focusing on Tina.
“I’m not sure if it will be true love or not. But considering how long it’s taken Tommy to get hold of her, he’ll probably stay faithful.
“Viewers want them to get together but have been kept waiting. The more Tommy and Tina play it out, the bigger the impact will be when it happens.”
I’m one of those viewers who want a Tommy-Tina partnership. Can you imagine how insanely pretty their babies would be?!
