As fans of Corrie will know, Peter Barlow has been having an affair with Carla Connor (Alison King) for months now, and next week, during Frank Foster’s rape trial, the truth about their relationship will come out…
Which will of course leave Peter’s wife Leanne (Jane Danson) devastated. However, Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter, has revealed that there’s to be an “unexpected twist” to the storyline.
He first explained that when Frank’s (Andrew Lancel) lawyer quizzes Carla about her relationship with Peter, she falls into the trap and claims they are nothing more than friends.
However, when photographs taken by the PI Frank hired are shown to the court – which feature Carla and Peter kissing – there’s no disputing the truth and Carla is therefore caught in the lie…
And in the episode that airs on Monday, January 30th, we’ll see a horrified Leanne learning the truth about Peter and Carla right along with the jurors.
However, once she’s had time to consider the situation, she tells Peter that she still loves him and wants their marriage to work. She adds that as he forgave her for her affair with Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) she can do the same for him, as long as he swears to call it off with Carla.
Of the dilemma Peter then has to face, Chris told Inside Soap, “There’s an awful lot of talking to be done.
“Peter and Leanne have a dark night of the soul, where everything comes out in the open – and Peter is left with a huge decision to make in the end.
“It’s not what you might predict, though – there’s a twist in those scenes that’s quite unexpected. I think they’re very well-written.”
And of course, it remains to be seen which ending will air for Frank’s fate – guilty or not guilty. But irrespective of the verdict, Frank is of course set to be murdered later this year, and now Peter can be added to the ever growing list of suspects who have good reason to want Frank punished!
Which verdict are you hoping to see as the outcome of the trial? And who would you like Peter to choose; Leanne or Carla?
