Corrie star Georgia May Foote talks playing Katy Armstrong and her ambitions on the show

Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote has been talking to the Daily Star about her life on the nation’s most famous Street, and her teenaged character, Katy Armstrong.

Although Georgia’s 21, Katy is only 16, and the actress revealed later on in the interview that she’s asked for her ID when buying booze, and even kitchen knives!

But first, of playing the role of Katy alongside Sam Aston who plays her boyfriend Chesney, Georgia said, “We’ve had some really amazing storylines this year and the show has stuck to its roots all this time. I’m so proud to be part of it.”

However, Georgia revealed that portraying Katy’s pregnancy was hard work, and it’s put her off wanting kids of her own just yet.

She said, “The pregnancy went on for such a long time and I just wanted Katy to have the baby because I hated wearing the big bump!

“It was doing my head in because it was so heavy and would really dig in. It’s put me off having kids for a while!

“I will definitely wait till I’m at least 30. It didn’t make me broody at all, probably the opposite.

“But the babies we have playing the part are very cute. They are twins called Ronnie and Tommy. They are lovely…”

However, Georgia added, “The post-natal depression storyline has been hard and I found the filming very intense.

“It was quite good because it only ran over a couple of weeks but I did end up locking myself away until I went on set.

“The Corrie green room is so lively so if I was to go in there before a scene I couldn’t switch to being sad and crying my eyes out on set.

“I would hide away until the last minute. Post-natal depression happens to so many people so the pressure to get it right was huge.

“I was going home after a day’s filming and feeling really tired and with a headache from the stress of it all. I can’t imagine how hard it must be in real life.

“I think Katy and Chesney will be good parents, though. They just need some help as they are very young.”

And of Sam, Georgia said, “Sam is so lovely. He has so many girl fans because he’s grown up in the show. He can’t go anywhere without people wanting to meet him.

“It’s trendy to be ginger at the moment, I keep telling him, so he has become a bit of pin-up. Of course gingers are sexy! My best friend’s ginger and I always tell her she is gorgeous.”

And, as mentioned earlier, Georgia is constantly asked for ID, given that she plays such a young character.

She said, “I get asked for ID all the time when I buy alcohol. I get to the till with my bottle of wine and they look at me like: ‘Really?’

“Even when I’m doing a food shop they look twice at my driving licence. I got asked for ID when I bought kitchen knives for my new house, too.

“It makes me laugh – I can buy my own flat but can’t buy cutlery for it.”

Finally, Georgia revealed that in terms of Katy’s future, she’d love to see her landing a job in the Rovers.

She said, “I would love Katy to have a job behind the bar in the Rovers. I’ve worked in a bar so I love that sort of atmosphere and the banter you get from the customers.

“She’s a bit young at the moment so maybe just collecting glasses.

“The Rovers Return is gossip central. Everything seems to culminate there. I would really like to be in the thick of the action.”
