Corrie star Jane Danson promises “lots of twists” in Leanne, Peter, Carla love triangle

by Lynn Connolly

As fans of Coronation Street will know, in last night’s gripping episode – which featured Frank Foster’s rape trial – poor Leanne Barlow was devastated when Frank’s mum Anne (Gwen Taylor) showed her pictures of her husband Peter kissing Carla Connor (Alison King).

Frank (Andrew Lancel) couldn’t submit the evidence of Peter (Chris Gascoyne) and Carla’s affair legitimately though his barrister, so he and his mum decided that producing them to Leanne – who was in the public gallery – would have a dramatic effect while at the same time, proving the Carla lied under oath.

So, a smug Frank clearly now thinks he’s got away with it, and he may well have, but of course poor Leanne was devastated…

Speaking to People about what happens now for Leanne, Jane – who’s also starred in The Bill, Children’s Ward and The Grand – said, “She has had a dramatic couple of years but I’m not complaining.

“The writers have come up with some amazing stuff and I trust them completely.

“It will be interesting to see what she does and how she copes with the situation with [Peter’s son] Simon. She is a survivor, though, so whatever happens, she’ll get through it.”

Indeed Leanne is a survivor, given that her previous storylines have included her living through an addiction to drugs, becoming a prostitute, finding her long lost mum and having an affair! Not to mention her struggle to help Peter kick the booze.

However, when asked if Leanne can, or will, forgive Peter, Jane said “Some people may think she should, but I don’t think she can – even though she cheated on Peter with Nick.

“But it may not matter as Peter also has to make a choice between her and Carla.

“The affair has hurt Leanne incredibly and for it to be exposed so publicly is awful.

“There are lots of different twists to come in the next few weeks.”

Coronation Street, and the trial, continues throughout the week.
