Corrie star Marc Baylis promsied his gran he’d land a role on the show

Coronation Street newcomer Marc Baylis – who is to make his debut on the Street next week – had a very special reason for going after the role of Carla Connor’s brother Rob Donovan, and that was because he’d promised his granny he would.

Speaking to the Sun’s TV Biz, Marc said, “I told my nan about a year ago that I would get a part in Corrie.

“I asked her what show she would most like to see me in and she said Coronation Street. So I said I would try my best.

“It was a whimsical promise and I never expected it to be a part like this one.

“If I’d got a small scene walking into the Rovers or down the street, she would still have been happy. But obviously that conversation sowed the seeds…

“She was one of the first people I told when I got the part. Although when I told her she said she quite likes Emmerdale now!

“I’m not sure she has realised I’m in it full-time just yet but she’s thrilled and it will all fall into place in a few months.

“She loves Corrie. I think Rob will make her smile. She’ll see the good side of him.

“She’s my hero and I’m her grandson, so I can get away with anything, within reason.”

But of starting his new job on the nation’s favourite street, Marc said, “Obviously nerves come into play…

“It’s the same with anyone starting a new job but I couldn’t go in thinking, ‘Oh my goodness, I’m pinning Peter Barlow up against the wall’.

“It was all about keeping focused, but that doesn’t mean to say that at times when I’m in between scenes I don’t go, ‘Oh, I’m in Coronation Street!’

“I got that feeling the first time I walked into the Rovers, but you’ve just got to adjust to it as quickly as you can.”

I can’t wait to see Marc on the show; he’s not exactly difficult to look at is he?
