When former EastEnders star Michelle Collins joined the cast of Coronation Street in the role of pub landlady Stella Price, there was of course a great deal of criticism about what some described as her “dodgy” Manchester accent…
And in fact, so great was the criticism that Michelle gave serious thought to quitting the show, however, in an interview with Spirit & Destiny magazine this week, she claims that a visit to a psychic persuaded her to hang on in there.
Michelle, who apparently consults “spiritual life coach” Simon as well as psychic Cara on a regular basis said, “I was nervous to be joining Corrie, but consulted a dialect coach to get the accent right.
“So when I was slated, I seriously considered walking away. But Cara and Simon gave me the confidence to stay, to defy my critics and prove myself.”
And when asked if she’s ever had any paranormal encounters, given that she added that she believes she’s somewhat psychic herself, Michelle replied, “Yes, when I was 15. I saw my best friend’s spirit…
“She was 16 when she suddenly died of a heart attack on a school trip.
“I wasn’t scared. I’ve always felt that she has been with me throughout my life, guiding me.”
She added, “I also saw a ghost while staying in an old nunnery in Italy. I woke up in the night and saw a hooded figure at the end of my bed.”
“I was a young girl, living in London in Victorian times and my baby had died.”
She went on to say that her firm belief in the afterlife is a comfort to her. She said, “The fear has gone from my life. My aura is shiny and bright.”
I guess Michelle and co-star Bill Roache – who as we reported yesterday shared more of his spiritual beliefs while revealing he doesn’t feel the need to remarry – must have a lot to talk about then!
